Food is not center of one's life

I have been reading so many posts here about people fasting and at the same time planning to indulge in food and drinks after they break their fast.
When the time comes to really eat, then most are not even focused on the foods they were dreaming of during their fast.

Somehow the western world is so focused on food. I am so sorry to say that eating is but a ritual. One should eat to live and not live to eat. When we say I want to enjoy myself, that should not only be through eating the junk that this modern world is providing, one can enjoy oneself by admiring the sunrise, watching the birds, hear them sing, watcing the stars, just being with friends and family, etc. Why does one feel joyous with all the junk and not with eating real food(nature made)? The simple answer is we are programmed by the way our society is built, what we saw our parents and piers did, and the world of TV, all this is hard to break away from. Fasts are one way to leave that notion of I must eat in order to enjoy myself.

The other part for me about eating, the ritual of "feeding the fire" is to eat in peace, with no distractions, no TV, no talking, no reading, no on the go-running and eating, no emotional thoughts, but sitting quietly and focusing on your food. Try this and you will see how much lesser you eat and how much joy you have in eating.

One can always enjoy eating an apple, whether eating after completion of the fast or in normal eating days. Alcohol is a form of concentrated Sugar it will wipe out all the gains made by the fast. Intoxicating oneself is not joyous.

I am no saint, but life's center is not food. I indulge too, but through many fasts and from my lovely parents I have learned that eating is a ritual. I was raised with this practice of eating without distractions, eating lesser than stomach full, and once a while we were allowed some goodies.

Try this way of living and you will see the true joy of living.
