Filter On Distiller?

Hi there! We just got our waterwise distiller a few days ago and I made my first batch last night. Taste yummy! I like to mix it with fruit juices, etc. We settled for a Waterwise 4000 which is a tabletop but am hoping in the next few years to upgrade to a 12 gallon waterwise or at the least a five gallon.

Once I put it together I noticed that it has a filter on the spout where the water comes down and drips into the catch container. I know those aren't good for numerous reasons so how do I remove it without causing damage to the spout. I really don't want the filter on there! Will it do harm? I plan on making about two gallons a day to satisfy a three person household at the moment!
